CMS migration

Contentful to Storyblok migration, planned for editors and launch teams

Codalent helps marketing and web teams move Contentful content, assets, references and workflows into a usable Storyblok setup — without treating a complex replatform as a simple export and import.

Scope is based on your Contentful models, content volume, frontend and launch constraints — not a fixed migration template.

Trusted technical support for marketing teams

What we deliver

A controlled migration, not a one-time import

We plan the operating model as carefully as the content transfer, so your team can manage Storyblok after launch.

Migration discovery

We inventory content types, entries, assets, locales, integrations, publishing practices and SEO baselines. You get a scoped plan built around the real source estate.

Content architecture mapping

We translate Contentful models into Storyblok components, nested blocks, folders, datasources and references. Editors receive clearer, reusable building blocks.

Repeatable migration pipeline

Version-controlled scripts transform content, upload assets and restore relationships across trial and final runs. This supports review and correction without duplicate records.

Preview and governance setup

We configure roles, workflows, preview behaviour and component guardrails. Your team can review content in context before publishing.

SEO and cutover controls

We validate URLs, redirects, metadata, internal links and sitemap coverage, then document launch and rollback steps. Marketing retains visibility through release decisions.

Technical approach

Technical approach built around your content and frontend

The right migration design depends on your models, locales, frontend stack and operational dependencies. We assess parity first, then select an approach that remains maintainable after handoff.

Schema and component design

Contentful content types rarely map one-to-one. We decide what becomes a Storyblok page, component, reusable block, folder, datasource or reference to balance editorial flexibility with guardrails.

API-led, idempotent imports

Using Contentful exports or APIs and Storyblok Management API workflows, we import assets and dependencies in the correct order. Stable source IDs allow later runs to update content rather than duplicate it.

Rich text, assets and localization

We explicitly transform embedded content, links, asset URLs, field values and locale codes. Asset and reference mapping tables make exceptions visible for review.

Frontend visual preview

Storyblok Visual Editor requires a working preview environment. We assess your frontend — such as Next.js, Nuxt, Astro or React — for draft preview, real paths, HTTPS and CSP compatibility.

Integration and release readiness

Webhooks, forms, search, analytics, consent tools and custom Contentful apps need separate assessment. We rebuild, replace or move functions where appropriate, then test deployment, cache behaviour and monitoring.

Reduce migration uncertainty and fragmented ownership

Contentful-to-Storyblok projects often stall between content owners, frontend teams and integration suppliers. Codalent brings those decisions into one visible delivery process.

An embedded technical team for migration, launch and beyond

Use a coordinated technical team for migration work, launch support and ongoing Storyblok improvement — without assembling multiple freelancers or a full internal delivery function.

01

Subscribe and assemble the team

We align developers, a technical project manager and marketing-technology expertise to your migration scope. You get access to the capabilities the work requires.

02

Prioritise in ClickUp

Migration tasks, decisions, dependencies and acceptance criteria live in a shared ClickUp board. Your team sees what is planned, active and ready for review.

03

Collaborate in Slack and weekly calls

A dedicated Slack channel and weekly cadence calls keep content, marketing and technical stakeholders aligned. Issues can be resolved before they become launch blockers.

04

Deliver, review and improve

We use Codalent AI for research, documentation and QA acceleration, with human review and ownership throughout. The team supports migration runs, cutover and follow-on improvements.

FAQs

Contentful to Storyblok migration FAQs

What is included in a Contentful to Storyblok migration?

Typical scope includes source inventory, content-model mapping, Storyblok configuration, migration scripts, asset and reference migration, preview integration, QA, SEO checks, cutover support and documentation. The exact scope depends on content volume, locales, integrations, frontend work and the operational features you need to retain or replace.

Can you migrate entries, assets, references, rich text and localized content?

Yes, these can be included when they are defined in the migration scope. They require deliberate transformation and dependency ordering, especially for embedded rich text, linked entries, asset URLs and locale differences. We run sample migrations and document records that need manual review or a different target design.

Will our URLs and SEO metadata be protected?

We establish a URL and SEO baseline, then validate paths, internal links, redirects, canonicals, metadata and sitemap coverage before launch. Where Storyblok routing or your new architecture changes URLs, we define redirects and review the impact. Search outcomes cannot be guaranteed, but migration risks can be actively managed.

What happens to Contentful apps, workflows, drafts and history?

These items need separate assessment. Some operational configuration is not included in standard Contentful export and import flows, and author history may not transfer. We define what will be migrated, recreated, retained for reference or excluded, including custom apps, webhooks, scheduled work and approval processes.

Do we need to rebuild the frontend for Storyblok Visual Editor?

Not always, but the frontend must integrate with Storyblok components and support preview correctly. We assess your current implementation and determine the required work for draft preview, real paths, secure embedding and editor-facing visual editing. The answer depends on your framework and existing architecture.

Can we keep publishing while the migration is underway?

Often, yes, through an agreed content freeze, delta-import process or both. The right option depends on publishing frequency, content complexity and launch requirements. We define ownership, cutover approvals and the final content-change process early so editorial work does not become an unmanaged risk.

How are tasks and changing requirements managed?

Work is prioritised in a shared ClickUp board and reviewed through Slack and weekly cadence calls. New requirements are assessed against migration dependencies, launch priorities and available capacity. This gives stakeholders a clear view of trade-offs rather than treating changes as informal requests.

Can Codalent maintain and improve our Storyblok implementation after launch?

Yes. The subscription model can continue after cutover for component improvements, frontend development, integrations, technical SEO, analytics, performance work and ongoing support. Completed work remains yours, while Codalent retains the scripts and documentation needed to support future migration or enhancement work.
